Special Education Teacher: We are currently conducting a search for a Certified Special Education Teacher to join our team of instructors and vocational training specialists at The HEART Program. This is a unique opportunity to teach adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities after high school and to incorporate hands-on and on-site job training with your classroom teaching. All of the joy of teaching, without much of the red-tape of a school district. Our non-profit organization emphasizes education as the most important factor in a student’s success on the job and places an emphasis on hiring certified teachers to work with our adult trainees for that reason. And the best part is, you have the chance to work with your students in action – in small groups – to see where additional instruction can be helpful for them. You will also be asked to teach large classes consisting of adult special needs students with multiple ages and learning levels. This is a challenging and rewarding position for the right candidate.
Vocational Training Specialist (VTS): Are you looking for an entry level position in the non-profit field? Have you wondered how to get your foot in the door with a job that helps others? Our organization is now conducting a search for a great candidate and all-around team player to join our growing team as what we call a VTS (Vocational Training Specialist).
What this position involves is cashiering at exciting events such as the Houston Rockets basketball games and making pizzas at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo events, Monster Truck Jam and more. The best part? You are actually helping others in this position by being a role model and a helper for those with special needs who are learning these jobs. In this position, you will be assisting with vending machine and concessions training for adults with special needs, traveling to job sites and supervising their work, assisting with teaching job skills, and providing other duties as needed.

HOW TO APPLY: Please submit a resume and coverletter to rcastillo@heartprogram.org in order to be considered for the positions.
